This was a significant work in botanical art history, showcasing the plants cultivated in the garden of Prince-Bishop Johann Konrad von Gemmingen in Eichstätt, Germany.

This image features a framed botanical illustration by Basilius Besler, a renowned Nuremberg apothecary. The illustration is from his monumental work, Hortus Eystettensis (Garden of Eichstätt), first published in 1613. This folio is celebrated as one of the earliest and most comprehensive botanical publications of its kind, meticulously depicting over a thousand plant varieties. 
One of the prints showcases three distinct plants:
Iris bulbosa mixta: This refers to a variegated Spanish iris, depicted on the left.
Moly latifolium: This represents a wild leek, situated in the center with its distinctive round cluster of flowers.
Iris bulbosa variegata: This is another variegated Spanish iris, mirroring the form of the Iris bulbosa mixta on the right.
 
The other print features:
Iris Bulbosa pallido colr. (pale-colored bulbous iris) – likely referring to the Spanish Iris.
Lilium Montanum rubrum praecox. (early red mountain lily) – also known as Lesser Turk's-cap Lily.
Iris folys angustes prima. (first narrow-leaved iris) – likely a Rhizomatous Iri
Besler's Hortus Eystettensis is particularly significant as it marked a shift in botanical art, moving beyond purely medicinal or utilitarian depictions to emphasize the inherent beauty and aesthetic qualities of plants.
