Artist Bio;
No one uses watercolor like Debbie Kingston Baker. Although she only uses dabs of different colors to represent backgrounds in her paintings, her subjects are extremely detailed. Her storybook art is unrealistic; yet, she has a remarkable grasp for texture. And embellished with clever sayings or Biblical verses, Debbie’s charming and colorful artwork catches the spirit of any occasion or feeling.
Debbie began painting when she was very young with encouragement from her grandfather, who helped her look for ideas and instructed her in techniques and color mixing. Today for inspiration, Debbie listens to music while painting because it puts her in the right mood. Debbie’s favorite piece is “The Lord is My Shepherd Girl.” Interestingly enough, though, she was inspired by a dream instead of her Christian and classical music tapes while painting this piece. Before beginning the painting, she had a dream about finding a paintbrush in an attic. For the week following, she says she carried a creative energy and drew this piece as if it were a gift from God.
