ABOUT THE ARTIST- Frank McCarthy (1924–2002) was a prominent American artist and illustrator, celebrated as the "Dean of Western Action Painters" for his dynamic and highly accurate depictions of the American Old West. Early Life and EducationBorn on March 30, 1924, in New York City, McCarthy’s passion for art began in childhood, influenced by the classic illustrations of N.C. Wyeth. He began formal studies as a teenager at the Art Students League, where he learned from renowned anatomy teacher George Bridgman and Depression Era painter Reginald Marsh. He later earned a degree in illustration from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.

McCarthy spent over 20 years as a successful commercial illustrator in New York. His diverse body of work included:
