ABOUT THE ARTIST
The painting of the old mill and water wheel is likely by George T. Mayers, an American artist known for his landscapes and historical subjects. About George T. Mayers:
Background: He was a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Art and worked for many years in New York doing illustrations for major magazines like Time, Life, and Fortune, as well as for advertising agencies.
Artistic Style & Subject Matter: Mayers worked with oil, watercolor, and acrylic. His assignments often included Revolutionary War and Civil War subjects, but he also painted landscapes like the one in the image, demonstrating a facility in various mediums.
Exhibitions & Awards: He had numerous one-man shows and received several awards, including the Freedoms Foundation Medal for a series of paintings on the American Flag.
Collections: His work is part of many private collections in the United States, Canada, and Europe.
Later Life: He notably held one-man shows every other year at Newman's Gallery in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and passed away in 1987.
