Artist Biography
Graciela Rodo Boulanger (b. 1935)
Born in La Paz, Bolivia, Boulanger is one of the most celebrated female artists of the 20th century. Raised by a concert pianist and an art connoisseur, she spent her youth torn between her two passions: piano and painting. By age 22, she chose to focus on visual art and moved to Paris to study etching and printmaking under the legendary Johnny Friedlaender.
She is best known for her "children of the world" theme, which gained global recognition when she was named the official artist for UNICEF’s International Year of the Child in 1979. Her works have been commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera and are held in permanent collections at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) of Latin America and the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris.
