    • Artwork Details: "Genesis" is a color lithograph, of a limited edition print, #67/275. The image itself depicts a stylized figure, a bird, and fish, often interpreted as a representation of creation.
    • Artist Background: Irving Amen was a renowned American painter, printmaker, and sculptor known for his woodcuts, etchings, and paintings. He received a scholarship to the Pratt Institute at age fourteen and studied there from 1932 to 1939. Amen's work often drew inspiration from themes of Judaism, music, and people, and he was known for his distinct linework and use of color.
    • Significance: Amen's works are held in the collections of major institutions worldwide, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. IRVING AMEN (1918-2011)

Known for his oil paintings, etchings and woodcuts, Irving Amen was born in New York City, worked there for some years, and then moved to Boca Raton, Florida. Born in New York City in 1918, he began drawing at the age of four. A scholarship to the Pratt Institute was awarded to him when he was fourteen years old. With Michelangelo as his idol, he spent seven years in life classes perfecting his drawing.
