James "Jim" Elwood Reynolds (1926–2010) was a renowned American Western artist known for this impressionistic paintings depicting the life of cowboys  and the American frontier. 
Early Life & Inspiration:
Born in California in 1926, Reynolds spent summers in Nevada City, where he heard stories of the Old West from cowboys, which significantly influenced his later artistic themes. He was inspired to pursue art after seeing a reproduction of a Frank Tenney Johnson painting at age 13. 
Artistic Career:
After serving in the Navy during World War II, he pursued art, initially in commercial art and later in Hollywood studios. He eventually settled near Sedona, Arizona, in 1967, focusing on his passion for painting unspoiled landscapes and Western scenes. 
Recognition & Affiliations:
Reynolds was a proud member of the National Academy of Western Art (NAWA) and an active member of the Cowboy Artists of America. He received numerous accolades, including the Gold Award for Oil Painting, the Nona Jean Hulsey Buyer's Choice Award, and the Prix de West from NAWA in 1992 for his painting "Arizona Cowboys".
His work is characterized by cinematic realism and rugged depictions of the American frontier, celebrating the spirit of the West through traditional oil painting techniques. His paintings are held in various museum and private collections across the United States.
