The artwork pictured is an original oil painting on canvas of a Maryland state map by the Peruvian artist Julius Lira Salazar. Born in Madre de Dios, Peru, in 1973, Salazar is widely known in art and design circles for his distinct, antiqued geographical paintings. His style blends classical cartography with textured, parchment-like backgrounds, often featuring ornate calligraphic borders, classical cartouches, and vintage map instruments like the draftman's divider calipers shown in the bottom-left corner over the "SCALA" scale bar
