Key Identifiers and Timeline
  • Raquel Welch in "Woman of the Year": The Palace Theatre marquee prominently features Raquel Welch in Woman of the Year. Welch famously replaced Lauren Bacall in the role for a two-week vacation in December 1981, and later took over the lead full-time from June 1982 to January 1983.
  • "Raiders of the Lost Ark": The Embassy 1 theatre is showing Steven Spielberg's Raiders of the Lost Ark. While the film originally premiered in June 1981, it had a significant re-release starting July 16, 1982, which aligns perfectly with Raquel Welch's full-time run at the Palace.
  • Iconic Signage: The painting also depicts the large blue Panasonic billboard and the Wienerwald restaurant, both staples of the Times Square landscape during the early 1980s.
