McAninch is an experienced artist and designer known for her textural, abstract, and expressionistic work, often focusing on landscapes and seascapes. 
Style and Technique: McAninch works with expressive colors and uses both brushes and a palette knife to create thick, layered impasto textures. Her style balances representation and abstract design, offering more information with less detail.

She appreciates the balance between representation and design in the creation of her artwork and truly enjoys the process of decision-making that sets her work apart.  Her Expressionist style is characterized by arbitrary layering of complex colors with brush and palette knife.  Kim prefers not to name her work, except for reference because she encourages the viewer to use the visual information offered to determine the meaning framed in his/her own experiences.  Kim has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Surface Pattern Design from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.  She currently resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Through the expressive use of brush and palette knife, she conveys an emotion, a mood and the pure joy of color. Her work offers elusive and intangible qualities to the viewer, who in turn add personal experience, giving life to her work. Her artwork is in select galleries and is collected worldwide.
