ABOUT THE ARTIST: OWEN WEXLER
Owen grew up in the Bronx, NYC, and graduated from the City College of New York with a Bachelors of Fine Arts, before studying on full scholarship at the Art Institute of Chicago where he earned a Masters of Fine Arts with a concentration in painting and drawing. He was an art teacher, then Dean of Flushing High School, and eventually, with the financial support of his wife and the success of his sales, he was able to become a full-time artist. He was amazed that the little boy with the brush and vision was able to make a great living selling his artwork. His work has graced the walls of museums and galleries around the country and was a source of pride and joy for him. He loved talking about art, teaching art, and just being the Artist.  It was who he was meant to be and he always saw the world through a pencil, a brush, a lens, a palette. 
Owen was an active community member. He served on numerous boards and committees, active with UNCW,  the Osher Lifelong Learning program, the Community Race Relations Advisory Committee, the Arts Council of Wilmington, the North Carolina State Council of the Arts,  the American Red Cross, and more. The list is very long, but the message he would want to leave behind is to serve your community, every day, in some way.  He would also encourage every person to VOTE, and to remind people that local government matters. 
Artist Owen was a father, a friend, a teacher and mentor, an advocate and fighter for the underprivileged. A loyal community servant and devoted volunteer who never knew a stranger.
