  • Robert Benjamin (also known as Robert A. Benjamin) is an American artist known for his aviation art and landscape paintings, particularly those depicting the New Mexico landscape. His work is held in various collections, including the Smithsonian Institution.
  • Aviation Focus: Benjamin has a strong connection to aviation, having created numerous airplane paintings for various publications and organizations, including the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA).

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Robert A. Benjamin, born in Martins Ferry, Ohio in 1951, is a renowned American artist, particularly recognized for his landscape paintings, lithographs, and aviation art.  
Early Life and Education:
  • He graduated from Alliance High School in 1969, where he was actively involved in various organizations and won multiple awards for commercial design and journalism.
  • He then attended the Ivy School of Professional Art in Pittsburgh.
  • Career and Artistic Journey:
    • After his education, Benjamin moved to New Mexico, initially working as an illustrator, art director, and lithographer, and even owned an art bronze foundry.
    • He worked under Master Printer Ben Adams at Western Graphics Lithography Studio, where he assisted notable artists and also printed his own lithographs, which gained national distribution and are held in museum collections.
    • Eventually, he shifted his focus to his true passion: landscape painting, particularly inspired by the New Mexico landscape.
    • In 2001, New Mexico Magazine featured his work as the "Distinguished Calendar Artist" for their millennium issue, showcasing twelve of his pastel landscapes.
    • His works are found in numerous public and private collections, including the Smithsonian Institution National Collection of Fine Arts, the Museum of Natural History in Albuquerque, and the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
    • Beyond his painting, Benjamin has a strong connection to aviation, being inducted into the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) Hall of Fame in 2006 for his contributions to aeromodelling, especially in electric-powered flight and scale competitions. He also created instructional videos and maintained a website dedicated to electric flight.
    • Robert Benjamin currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he continues to paint the southwestern landscape and engage in various art forms. He also maintains a painting studio in Rosebush, Michigan.
