Alvar Suñol Muñoz-Ramos, commonly known as Alvar, is a prominent contemporary Spanish painter, sculptor, and lithographer who has had a career spanning over six decades.
 
Early Life and Education
Born on January 29, 1935, in Montgat, Spain, Alvar began painting at age 12 and was accepted into the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Jorge in Barcelona at 17.
At 18, he won the Young Painter's Prize, and one of his paintings was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in Barcelona.
A scholarship from the French Institute allowed him to study in Paris, where he moved in 1959.
Career and Artistic Style
In Paris, Alvar achieved rapid success, selling all his paintings at Galerie Drouant shortly after his arrival and exhibiting alongside renowned artists like Miró, Dalí, and Picasso.
Alvar's art combines Catalan and Romanesque traditions with modern elements, featuring surreal and mystical imagery often focusing on themes of peace, family, and music. He draws inspiration from Renaissance masters and incorporates symbolism and intricate techniques, particularly in his lithographs.
He works in various mediums, including oil, watercolor, sculpture, ceramics, and large-scale murals.
His works are held in permanent collections and have been exhibited in numerous museums and galleries across the United States, Europe, and Asia.
