Van Gogh painted the original work in October 1889 while he was a patient at the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole asylum in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France. The painting is known for its vibrant colors, particularly the striking contrast between the warm yellows and oranges of the tree's foliage and the cool blues of the sky. The artist used thick brushstrokes, known as impasto, to create a sense of dynamic energy and movement in the tree's leaves and branches. Van Gogh described the work as an "explosion of color in the sunshine" in a letter to his brother Theo.

Birth and Death: Vincent Willem van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853, in Zundert, Netherlands, and died on July 29, 1890, in Auvers-sur-Oise, France, at the age of 37.
Varied Vocations: Before deciding to become an artist at age 27, he pursued other careers as an art dealer, teacher, preacher, and missionary in a Belgian mining community.
Artistic Journey: Largely self-taught, he produced nearly 900 paintings and over 1,100 drawings and sketches in just over a decade of his artistic career. 
 
Style and Major Works
Artistic Style: Van Gogh's work is characterized by bold colors, forceful brushwork (impasto), and contoured forms that express the artist's inner feelings and the spiritual essence of nature. His work contributed significantly to the rise of Expressionism.
Influence: He was influenced by Japanese woodblock prints and the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists he met in Paris.
